The G17 University Ambassadors of Universiti Malaya set up a SDG Walking Booth on the Universiti Malaya campus on September 24, 2022, in conjunction with the Global Goals Week Campaign, to promote and educate students on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their targets.
The mobile booth was an initiative led by Iman L'Feera Syahril Azhar, Ong Zhi Ken, Aloysious Yap Hon Wai, and Tan Wan Ying to actively engage students and visitors on campus. Within five hours, the ambassadors visited multiple hotspots and student gathering areas on campus, including the 12th Residential College, UM Sentral, He&She Café, Faculty of Engineering, 1st Residential College, and Dewan Tunku Canselor.
The team of ambassadors was able to engage and impact 10 students through meaningful SDG conversations. The students were introduced to the SDGs and were asked about their opinions and understanding of the goals using materials and stunt banners prepared by the team.
Students at Universiti Malaya demonstrated a good understanding of the SDGs and were able to briefly explain each goal. Goal 4, Quality Education, appeared to be the most important goal for them, fitting their status as students. Notably, one of the students mentioned the importance of developed countries of providing their expertise and sustainable technology to low-income countries at a low cost when asked about their hopes for # FlipTheScript.
Following the engagement, the ambassadors and students reached an agreement that the Sustainable Development Goals must be practiced by everyone in order to make the world a better place and achieve a more sustainable world for future generations.
