During the SDG Global Week 2022, the G17 University Ambassadors Consortium (UAC) Sri Lanka, University of Vavuniya was in the process of seeking approval from the Harmony Center on campus to carry out our activities for the Global Week to #Act4SDGs. After eagerly waiting for a few days, we entered the next phase of our discussion by having a board meeting with the Vice Chancellor of the university, in which we explained what UAC does and what the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are all about.
Our Coordinator for the G17 UAC took pride in presenting our planned projects, future goals and ongoing initiatives. The board was astonished by what they heard. They were happy that the undergraduates of University of Vavuniya were committed to volunteering their time and efforts for the betterment of Mother Nature and society.
26th September 2022 was a tremendous day, as the ambassadors made a big change through a one-day activity. We made a SDG photo booth come to life in collaboration with the Harmony Center. That day, the ambassadors got together, made effective plans, executed them, and made the event happen.
There were many chief guests along with our Vice Chancellor. He was proud of our efforts to spread SDG awareness among the graduates, lecturers and the future generation, informing them on how they could live an effective life forward. One of our ambassadors made an inspiring speech sharing who we are and what we do.
The audience had an informative and engaging time along with us. There were cultural events ongoing and over 500 people gathered. The photo booth made a big impact and left an indelible impression on participants.
Furthermore, we received much support and appreciation for our booth, with participants trying their hand at the photoshoot. Others carefully read all the goals and raised several questions for us. There were a few people who asked us about the procedure to become an ambassador the next time. The atmosphere was filled with positivity and enthusiasm.
It was a pleasure speaking with the participants at the SDG booth. With the guidance of our coordinator, we look forward to paving an innovative and green path for the coming generation.
After the resounding success of the event, the Vice Chancellor and the board of members agreed to support us for the upcoming events and projects.
