On the Trail of Sustainability
“Our actions will resonate for years until the world is driven with purpose.” – Himaanthri Surendran
The clock is ticking fast, and we only have another 8 years left to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a promise made by 193 UN member states back in 2015. It has never been more important to make the world aware of the 17 SDGs and their targets. Thus, as an initiative under the guidance and support of the G17 University Ambassadors Consortium (UAC) Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) steered their SDG Global Week events on the 29th of September 2022.
The SGD Booth embarked by drawing a wall art sketch in the lobby area of SLIIT Faculty of Humanities and Sciences. The wall painting accentuating the 17 SDGs was coated in purple, gray, and white, symbolizing passion, intellectual fulfillment, and novel beginnings. These 3 colors were chosen to exemplify that the G17 University Ambassadors will continuously obligate themselves with a pure desire and intellectual commitment to drive the world toward sustainability. The project was initiated under the guidance of Dr. Malitha Wijesundara, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, lecturers, and approximately 500 undergraduates, and graduates. It was a moment of pride when the G17 University Ambassadors of SLIIT created awareness among the audience on Sustainable Development Goals and their vitality. All the Ambassadors felt a great sense of responsibility when informing others about their mission towards sustainable development.
Indeed, it was an immense pleasure to all ambassadors to have concluded the day with a sense of accomplishment in communicating about the Sustainable Development Goals to others. We feel humbly proud and satisfied to think that our actions for the SDG Global Week will speak for generations coming to SLIIT through the Wall.
