According to the World Food Program, around 828 million people go to bed hungry every night. Ever since Covid-19 hit the world, Malaysia included, we became aware of hunger issues. Due to the situation, a lot of people got laid off from their jobs and were having a hard time putting food on the table. As a human being, having enough food to eat is very crucial. With that being said, G17 Malaysia has collaborated with Kechara Soup Kitchen food bank in the hopes of putting an end to hunger issues among families in Malaysia.
On the 23rd of September, a group of 17 volunteers worked together to deliver dry food packages from door to door in Petaling Jaya, a city in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. Volunteers were led by 3 national executive members and ambassadors who also took part in the mission to stop hunger. Dressed in red and maroon, the team, filled with hope, visited and distributed food packages to 12 homes in a rental flat area. The team also had the chance to visit children who are studying after school, in a hall under the flat of a group of residents planting trees in a newly cleaned area. This shows that the government has made an effort to achieve a better quality of education for students even though they could not afford to pay tuition.
Malaysia is not a part of the first world countries but we are making tremendous efforts to achieve a better life for its people. In Malaysia, the number of young people who participated in volunteering missions is increasing and this changed their lives a lot. Our actions might be small, but no act of kindness is ever wasted.
