The Global Week to #Act4SDGs is a global mobilization taking place during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly in September, to show world leaders that people all around the world are committed, dedicated, and inspired to take action on the SDGs. This year’s mobilization focuses on the key themes of Climate, Justice and Peace and mark the mid-way point of the SDG Agenda.
Addressing the SDGs will necessitate changes in how communities and economies operate and interact with the environment. The SDGs include a variety of difficult social, economic, and environmental concerns. To tackle these issues, society will need education, research, innovation, and leadership. Universities have a crucial role to play in achieving the SDGs because of their extensive mandate for knowledge generation and dissemination, as well as their unique position within society in educating the next generation of young changemakers.
In order to raise awareness of the SDGs, we chose the University of Dhaka as a suitable location for setting up the booth. With a student population of 33,000, it is the biggest public university in the capital city of Bangladesh.
The SDG Booth event was held on 29th September 2022, at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) at the University of Dhaka. There were banners and placards that educated people on the SDGs and how we can achieve them. Those who visited the booth got to choose a placard of a goal that they would like to work on. Also, a registration desk was set up so that people who were inspired to take action on the SDGs could sign up as volunteers.
Through the SDG Booth event, G17 Bangladesh was able to spread knowledge and awareness of the SDGs and inform people about what they could do to make these goals a reality. The pictures taken at the booth were shared on social media by the participants. Overall, people were inspired and aware of their duty to take action on the SDGs.
